Welcome – Introduction to BodyMind Therapy

How BodyMind Therapy was born?

If you’re living with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS/ME) or long COVID, you’ve probably been told a lot of different things about your illness. That it’s incurable. That it’s all in your head. That you "just have to live with it."

And if you’re like many of my clients, you’ve probably tried medications, rest, pushing through, giving up, and starting over.


I understand—because I’ve been there too.


I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia years ago and lived with the daily struggles, uncertainty, and pain that come with it. But something changed when I began to understand how the brain and nervous system contribute to chronic symptoms. I didn’t just study it—I experienced how healing happens when we begin to work with the body and mind together.


 That’s how BodyMind Therapy was born.

What is Bodymind Therapy?

BodyMind Therapy is a gentle, research-based approach that helps you understand why your body is producing symptoms—and how to retrain your nervous system back to balance.

This is not “positive thinking” or “just relaxing more.”

- It’s a structured way of working with the brain and body to:

- Calm the overactive limbic system (the part of the brain that responds to threat)

- Reduce chronic pain, fatigue, hypersensitivity, gut issues, and brain fog

- Rewire stress patterns and emotional overload

- Learn to apply these new skills in everyday situations 

- Help you regain trust in your body and daily life


Why does this approach work?

Fibromyalgia, CFS/ME, and long COVID are not psychiatric illnesses—but they do involve the brain and nervous system being stuck in survival mode.

This creates real, physical symptoms. But when we gently teach the brain that life is safe again, healing begins.


This is why traditional methods often don’t work: because they don't address the root cause—the brain’s ongoing perception of threat.

Who am I to guide this process?

I’m a trained CBT therapist, specialized in chronic illness and nervous system regulation. I’ve worked with many clients who came to me exhausted, discouraged, and out of hope.

Many of them are now living fuller, freer lives—with fewer or even no symptoms. I also speak from my own recovery, after years of living with fibromyalgia.


So I know both professionally and personally: there is a way forward.

I’ve had fibromyalgia for over ten years. The pain worsens especially with weather changes. When I began therapy, my body was full of pain and tension – long workdays, stress, and the earlier death of my father had overloaded both mind and body. I had little energy in the evenings, stopped exercising, and gained weight.

I had been struggling with severe long covid / ME/CFS for a year and a half when I began therapy with Maria. At the time, I was mostly homebound, though medication allowed me to continue studying. One requirement before starting was reading a book on Reverse Therapy, so I was already familiar with the theory, which helped us dive right in – I truly appreciated this.

We mostly focused on anxiety rooted in past trauma. It was a relief to have someone offer an outside perspective and personal support alongside the other healing tools I was using, such as pacing, dietary changes, nervous system work, somatic practices, parts work, and trauma therapy.

Maria embraces a compassionate and integrative approach – she doesn’t exclude other tools or therapies but supports healing holistically. Her knowledge of trauma was very important to me.
